Kazakhstan's Dos Mukasan songs go 'Harlem Shake' style
Kazakhstan band Chick Flick has released a new music video called Mukasan Shake, Tengrinews.kz reports. It is a mix of famous songs of the legendary Kazakh band Dos Mukasan (known for Toi Zhyry, Kudasha and Kaidasyn songs) and Harlem Shake. The Harlem Shake is an Internet meme (an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture) in the form of a video in which a group of people perform a comedy sketch accompanied by a short excerpt from the song Harlem Shake. Thousands of Harlem Shake videos were made and uploaded to YouTube every day at the height of its popularity."Forgotten but beloved a capella music style is coming back. We voiced all the parts, both percussions and instruments. This time we made 128 sound tracks. The best three hits ever of the legendary Dos Mukasan band became the basis of the Mukasan Shake composition," the band said. The music video was made only for the Internet use. Chick Flick band is not going to rotate the video on TV as they would need a permission from Dos Mukasan band to do so. “We remade songs a capella before. A’studio band's White River was the first composition we remade and recorded. We didn't have to obtain any permissions and we weren’t going to air it on TV. But our work became popular then we obtained the permissions from Kazakh musician, producer and song writer Baigali Serkebayev and Kazakh singer and composer Batyr. In case we would want to put the Mukasan Shake video on TV, we will of course obtain a permission from the legendary Kazakh band. But now it is only for the Internet,” the band member Arman Boyaubayev said. The front singer of Dos Mukasan band Murat Kusainov said that a lot of musicians sang or remade their songs. “I've heard a lot of versions of our songs, but nobody has done it better than us. I wish they would. I haven't heard the new version of our song yet, but they should have shown it to us. We don’t charge people who want to use our songs, but they should have asked for our permission,” Kusainov said.
