Kazakhstan director's movie featured in Vienna

Bauyr (Little Brother) movie by Kazakhstan director Serik Aprymov (produced by Kazakhfilm) has been entered into the program of the Orizzonti (Horizons) section of the 70th Venice Film Festival, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the festival's official website. The festival's No. 2 section Orizzonti presents new trends in the world cinema. 31 movies will compete in the section this year with Palo Alto by Gia Coppola (USA), Natura morta by Cristiano Civitillo (Italia) and Eastern Boys by Robin Campillo (France) among them. 20 films will participate in the main competition of the 2013 Venice Film Festival that will be held from August 28 to September 7. Here are some names from the participants’ list: - animated film Kaze Tachinu by Hayao Miyazaki (Japan), - thriller The Zero Theorem by Terry Gilliam (UK and USA), - social drama Child of God by James Franco (USA), - Tom at the Farm by Xavier Dolan (Canada and France), - Tracks by John Curran (UK and Australia), - Philomena by Stephen Frears (UK), - Under the Skin by Jonathan Glazer (UK and USA), and - Night Moves by Kelly Reichardt (USA). The Venice Film Festival is the oldest international film festival in the world, founded by Count Giuseppe Volpi in 1932. And of course, it is one of the most prestigious festival in line with the A Class Berlin and Cannes film festivals. 18 years ago Kazakhstan’s film Kardiogramma by Darezhan Omirbayev participated in the main section of the 52nd Venice International Film Festival and won the UNESCO prize. Over the past year Kazakhstan's films have taken part in almost every A Class film festivals. Student movie directed by Darezhan Omirbayev was named the most recommended film of the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. Emir Baigazin's Harmony Lessons won the Silver Bear for Artistic Achievement for its cinematographer Aziz Zhambakiyev at the Berlinale in 2013. And debuting film director Erbol Zhumagulov will represent his project The Book at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, held on October 3-12, 2013. By Aizhan Tugelbayeva
