Hardcore, a movie produced by Timur Bekmambetov and directed by Ilya Naishuller, has been awarded at the Toronto Film Festival, Tengrinews reports citing RIA Novosti.

Timur Bekmambetov is a Kazakhstan-born director, producer and screenwriter best known for the Night Watch film series and American films Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Bekmambetov was born on 25 June 1961, in Atyrau (then Guryev), a city in western Kazakhstan. At the age of 19 he started his studies at Tashkent’s Alexander Ostrovsky Theatrical and Artistic Institute. He graduated in 1987 with a degree in theater and cinema set design. Bekmambetov then moved to Moscow and brought to life his first successful project - Peshavar Waltz film, a compelling depiction of war between the USSR and Afghanistan. Since then, Bekmambetov directed and produced a variety of movies, including the latest Black Lightning, Apollo 18, The Darkest Hour and the most recent Hardcore.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) was held in Canada from 10 to 20 of September, and is considered the largest film festival in North America. One of the most influential film festivals in the world, it has a reputation of generating the “Oscar buzz.”

Hardcore was named the best in the festival’s Midnight Madness program that focuses on action, horror and fantasy cinema.

Hardcore is the world’s first action film to be shot 100% from the first person perspective. The latest last word in ADD cinema, it is a fantasy action movie through the eyes of Henry, a cyborg and a super soldier, as he, trying to rescue his wife, fights an army of mercenaries and eventually struggles to stop a megalomaniac supervillain Akan from destroying the world. The main roles in the movie are performed by the Hollywood star Sharlto Copley and Russian actor Danila Kozlovsky. The film also stars Haley Bennet, Darya Charusha, Will Stewart and others.

It is already known that STX Entertainment has bought the worldwide rights to the action movie for at least $10 million. The cinema company Bazelevs owned by Bekmambetov did not deny the fact of the transaction, but promised to officially confirm it later. It is known that Hardcore will have an international theatrical release, but the date has not been announced yet.
