Cuban singer Isaac Real and Kazakhstan-based Aldaspan ethnic rock band have recorded a video for their version of a well-known Kazakh folk song Kara Zhorga, Tengrinews reports citing Tengri FM. It premiered on Kazakhstan’s STV channel on July 3, and the song itself is rotated on Zhuldyz radio.
Kara Zhorga sang in Kazakh combines traditional Kazakh sounds and rhythmic Spanish motifs. Students of Almaty-based Choreographic School and Cuban dancer appear in the music video.
"The Spanish language is very beautiful. There is more love, more romance, more passion in Spanish than there is in the English language. When a Latin singer sings in his style and adds other motifs, it results in such excellent creations as Kara Zhorga song, because Latin music itself is very bright, vivid and it is very hard to get wrong with it!” Aldaspan's member Nurzhan Toishi said.
Isaac Real, in turn, admitted that despite the language barrier and the difficulty of Kara Zhorga lyrics, still, he chose the song, because it felt very similar to the music of his home country Cuba. “When I was choosing the song, I first looked at the easiness of its lyrics. But once I heard Kara Zhorga, I realized that I would better start with this song. As the saying goes, there are no easy ways and I decided just to learn the most difficult words, so that my accent was not so evident. I wanted to perform this particular song very much, because it is a dance song, very much like Latin music. I took the risk and I think I have succeeded,” he shared with Tengrinews.
Isaac Real has lived in Almaty for five years. He became popular in Kazakhstan for taking part in Kazakhstan's Voice singing contest, the Kazakh version of internationally renowned Voice. Since then, Isaac has been promoting Kazakh culture abroad, in particular in Spanish speaking countries.
Besides, in June of this year, Ay Maria song recorded by Aldaspan band and Isaac Real appeared on the chart of Radio Metropolitana in Cuba.
"Turkic ethnic music is in demand in Europe and America. It is very vivid, rhythmic, and has some basic motifs which, I think, are recognised by the world music market. For my part I will do everything possible to promote this music outside of Kazakhstan," the Cuban singer assured.
