Astana Opera singers win opera contest in Verona

Singers of Astana Opera have won prizes at the international contest of opera singers Arena di Verona held on November 4-10 in Verona, Italy, Tengrinews reports. Kazakhstan’s lead opera singers Sundet Baigozhin, Medet Chotabayev and Alfia Karimova became winners of the international contest. The laureates of the singing contest Baigozhin and Chotabayev will perform lead parts in La boheme opera by Giacomo Puccini on March 19, 2014 in the winter hall of the Arena di Verona, and Alfia Karimova will be a part of Maria Stuarda by Gaetano Donizetti. "The jury consisting of five members were casting singers for opera performances through this contest. It was hard, but we did our best. The competent jury members were surprised at how good Kazakhstan's opera school is," Baigozhin said. General Manager of Arena di Verona Francesco Girondini is interested in establishing a cooperation with Astana Opera theater. Art Director of Arena di Verona fund Paolo Gavazzeni offered the lead opera singer Sundet Baigozhin to come for an audition.
