Astana Opera opens third season with Silk Road Music Festival

The 3rd theatrical season of Astana Opera opens with the 2nd International Music Festival Silk Road, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the theatre.


The 3rd theatrical season of Astana Opera opens with the 2nd International Music Festival Silk Road, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the theatre.

The festival starts on September 25 and continues to November 8. Artists from the USA, Germany, Poland, Japan, South Korea, Russia and Kazakhstan are taking part in the Silk Road festival.

Abay Opera on September 25-26 and October 8. 

The festival opens with the premier of Akhmet Zhubanov and Latif Khamedi's Abay opera on September 25 and 26. The opera is a tribute to the greatest Kazakh thinker of the 19th century Abay Kunanbayev. Kazakh-Italian collaboration has come up with a new interpretation offering a contemporary view on the national classic. The opera will be presented with the use of new technologies, include 3D projections. For those who miss the opera in September, Astana Opera has organized another show on October 8.

Rodin ballet on September 30

On September 30, the organizers of the festival prepared Boris Eifman's Rodin ballet. "Hatred is love damaged by hurt," the poet Mikhail Zhvanetskiy once said. These words perfectly capture the unappreciated feelings of an artist and sculptor Camille Claudel. The young muse of Auguste Rodin inspired the great artists with her love and art. She lost her mind without tasting success and fame. Rodin himself was devastated being torn between his caring wife and love,' the annotation said.

Aida on October 4

Aida, one of the brightest masterpieces of the World Music takes the stage of Astana Opera on October 4. Verdi's opera puts the audience right in the midst of love and rivalry, war and passion, exotic dances and cortege.

On October 5, internationally acclaimed violin player Yerzhan Kulibayev brings the music of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius to Astana. 

Swan Lake on October 11 and November 2

The world classic, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake will be presented in the exclusive 3D version on October 11 and November 2. The decorations and costumes were created by a famous Italian duo Ezio Frigerio and Franca Squarciapino.

Puccini’s La Boheme, the story of sadness and joy brought by young singers from Astana opera will hit the stage on October 13 and 14. 

In addition, on October 16, prominent Kazakhstani piano player Zhaniya Aubakirova along with the Astana Opera symphonic orchestra will perform Rachmaninoff’s piano concerto No. 3 and other Russian and European works. 

Verdi’s Requiem performed by Mikhail Vekuya, a tenor from Mariinsky theatre and leading singers, choir and orchestra of Astana Opera takes place on October 18. 

The Fountain of Bakhchisaray composed by Boris Asafiyev takes the Astana Opera stage on October 20.

 

La traviata on October 22

Verdi’s masterpiece La traviata will be presented on October 22. La traviata combines the beauty of music and richness of vocals to hold the audience captive for hours in the world of the opera.

 

Karagoz on October 24

Vakil Usmanov's Karagoz national ballet praised by international experts and critics will take place on October 24. 

Birzhan-Sara on October 30

The lovers of Kazakh opera will be presented the classic opera Birzhan-Sara written by Mukan Tolebayev on October 30.

One of the most popular opera, Puccini’s Tosca is scheduled on November 7.

 

Tosca on November 7 

The Silk Road festival concludes on November 8 with a gala concert of Kazakhstani opera singer and ballet dancers.
