Akim (Mayor) of Almaty Akhmetzhan Yessimov called managers of bus and taxi companies to switch cars to gas, KazTAG reports from ecological forum called Transport on natural gas – Kazakhstan. “Today there are managers of private bus companies in this hall and I call you to start shifting buses to natural gas. In future presence of buses working on natural bus will be a crucial factor in government-run tenders for servicing passenger routes,” Yessimov said. He noted that every company has to have a clear plan on transferring buses to gas. “If there are no moves from your side, we are ready to expand municipal fleet or create several additional municipal bus fleets,” he said. “The same applies to taxi fleets. We have specially allocated money for Almaty Social-Entrepreneurship Corporation to give micro-loans for modifying engines for natural gas. I call managers of taxi companies to also work on this process, otherwise Almaty administration will have to create a municipal taxi fleet working on natural gas,” Almaty Akim said. According to Yessimov, the city administration is planning to further develop the project of gasification of public transport. The plan is to switch public transport to natural gas in the nearest time. This are around 4-5 thousand cars. Almaty Social-Entrepreneurship Corporation is preparing mechanisms of economic stimulation for both legal entities and individual entrepreneurs. The Corporation created a micro-loan organization that will extend discounted loans for modification of engines.
