Tengrinews.kz – The new trains set to replace the "Talgo" sets have passed certification tests.

According to the press service of "Passenger Transportation", the new passenger cars were manufactured in Astana. They have successfully completed over 10,000 kilometers of certification trials. These test runs, which began in September, cover various sections of the country’s railroads — including routes through Karaganda, Taraz, Shymkent, and Ust-Kamenogorsk.

The company reports stable results from the tests, with the reliability of the braking systems and the stability of the running gear confirmed.

The expected lifespan of the new wagons is 40 years.

By the end of 2025, the first batch of cars — including compartment, open-plan, and wheelchair-accessible cars, as well as generator wagons — will be delivered to the national carrier. Stadler will also provide maintenance for the rolling stock for the next 20 years.

A total of 557 wagons are expected to be delivered by 2030. Starting in 2026, the new trains are planned to be put into operation on the routes: Astana - Almaty, Astana - Semey, Astana - Shymkent, and Astana - Atyrau.

Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan is discontinuing the purchase of new "Talgo" trains. The current sets will continue operating until the end of their service life. There are currently 14 "Talgo" trains operating on 14 routes, comprising around 730 cars. Production of these trains in Kazakhstan ceased in 2023.

Additionally, in mid-September, the Chairman of the Board of JSC "Passenger Transportation" presented the new trains that will replace the "Talgo" fleet.
