Tengrinews.kz – As of April 5, mopeds in Kazakhstan are officially classified as motor vehicles — they must now be registered and undergo technical inspection. Tengrinews.kz looked into where and how to get a moped inspected.
Where and how to undergo a technical inspection?
According to the Ministry of Transport, all registered mopeds can be inspected at car service centers that serve passenger vehicles. Across the country, there are 950 operators with 2,000 stationary stations and 750 mobile stations.
Mopeds fall under category L1, which includes two-wheeled vehicles with a maximum speed of 50 km/h and engine capacity of no more than 50 cubic centimeters (or electric motors up to 4 kW).
What is checked during the inspection?
Similar to motorcycles, inspectors check:
- Braking system;
- Lighting equipment (headlights, tail lights);
- Condition of wheels and steering system.
The only exception is for new mopeds less than one year old from the date of manufacture.
