Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed public complaints about the poor state of passenger train cars in Kazakhstan. The issue was highlighted during his annual Address to the Nation.

“Many citizens are dissatisfied with the condition of passenger cars. An important step toward solving this long-standing problem is the launch of a railcar manufacturing plant in Astana. With the participation of a foreign investor, the enterprise will produce modern passenger cars equipped to advanced international standards,” Tokayev said.

The President also noted significant progress in recent years in upgrading aviation infrastructure. New terminals were opened in Almaty, Shymkent and Kyzylorda last year, while construction of new airports in Zaisan, Katon-Karagai and Kenderli is underway. The restoration of Arkalyk Airport has also begun. According to Tokayev, these projects will stimulate regional economic activity, create jobs and drive the growth of related industries.

Turning to air cargo, Tokayev stressed that despite positive growth in freight volumes, the sector has far greater potential. He reiterated earlier instructions to double cargo processing volumes, primarily by creating a national air cargo carrier with support from major international partners.

“In the era of e-commerce and high-tech product supply chains, the air cargo segment is highly profitable and in great demand. We must actively develop air hubs and integrate them into global logistics chains, while ensuring proper regulation of express cargo services to protect consumer interests,” Tokayev said.

He added that unmanned transport technologies, including delivery drones and specialized vehicles, are rapidly advancing worldwide.

“The government should create all the necessary conditions for their accelerated implementation, including adoption of relevant regulations. Our strategic task is to become a leading aviation hub in the Eurasian region. This work must involve the best experts and entrepreneurs, but the primary responsibility lies with the government. Progress on these tasks will be reviewed early next year after the government’s annual report,” the President concluded.
