Tengrinews.kz – Honda has expressed its willingness to restart merger discussions with Nissan, but only if the automaker undergoes a leadership change.

According to Japanese media, Nissan's current CEO, Makoto Uchida, had previously supported the idea of a deal. However, tensions with Honda’s leadership reportedly arose due to Nissan’s slow business optimization.

Honda initially proposed making Nissan its subsidiary, but the offer was firmly rejected.

“I truly regret how things turned out,” Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe commented.

However, he emphasized that Honda would be open to further negotiations if Nissan’s next leader could better manage internal resistance within the company.

Talks between the two auto giants had previously collapsed when Nissan declined Honda’s proposal and instead explored potential collaboration with Apple’s iPhone manufacturer.

Earlier, Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, announced its intention to cooperate with Nissan, clarifying that it had no plans to acquire the automaker.
