Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev launched the second line of the Dostyk–Mointy railway, calling it a landmark infrastructure project for Kazakhstan, Akorda reported.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, held as part of the 7th New Silk Way international transport and logistics business forum, Tokayev emphasized the strategic importance of the project.
“We are witnessing the official launch of the second line of the Dostyk–Mointy railway, which is truly an exceptionally important infrastructure project. It will undoubtedly give new momentum to the development and efficiency of Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics system. Thirty-five years ago, the Dostyk–Alashankou line was launched, linking Kazakhstan and China by rail for the first time — a historic milestone for our country,” Tokayev said.
He also welcomed veterans who took part in the construction of the original line and expressed gratitude for their contribution.
Tokayev highlighted transport and logistics as a driving force of the national economy and a key factor in strengthening international ties.
“Kazakhstan has great potential in this area. The Great Silk Road passed through our land, which has long been regarded as a golden bridge between China and Europe. China is our close neighbor and reliable ally. We consistently support one another, and our relations are built on strong friendship and mutual trust,” the president stated.
He noted the significance of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, first announced by President Xi Jinping in Kazakhstan in 2013, stressing that Kazakhstan fully supports and actively participates in the project.
“A vivid example of this cooperation is the second line of the Dostyk–Mointy railway,” Tokayev said.
