Tengrinews.kz – Astana has adjusted the operating mode of traffic lights at seven intersections, introducing a four-second all-red phase to improve safety, according to the city police department.
The changes apply to the following locations:
- Kerei, Janibek Khans – Al-Farabi
- Ryskulov – Mangilik El
- Sultan Beibarys near School No. 106
- Kusmurin – Kainar (School No. 68)
- Karamenby bi Shakauly – Zemlyanichnaya
- Tauelsizdik – Koshkarbaev
- Tauelsizdik – Baitursynov
Police noted that at these intersections the red signal now activates simultaneously in all directions for four seconds, giving drivers time to safely clear the junction.
According to accident analysis, collisions have decreased and overall traffic flow has improved following the timing adjustments.
For example, the Karamenby bi Shakauly – Zemlyanichnaya intersection recorded 28 crashes before the update, mostly left-turn collisions with oncoming vehicles. After the change, this type of accident has not been reported.
Earlier, Astana Police Chief Marat Tulebayev inspected several high-risk road sections. Since the beginning of the year, the capital has registered more than 1,700 traffic accidents.
