Tengrinews.kz – A heavy snowfall has hit Astana, creating hazardous road conditions. According to the Astana police, 93 accidents have already occurred since the beginning of the day.

Authorities are urging residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution due to strong snow, limited visibility, and ice, which make driving dangerous.

In light of the conditions, drivers are advised to:

  • strictly follow speed limits;
  • increase the distance between vehicles;
  • avoid sharp lane changes and sudden braking;
  • reduce speed in advance when approaching pedestrian crossings and intersections.

The police also remind drivers to ensure their vehicle is in good condition. During the winter season, cars must be equipped with winter tires, as failure to comply with this requirement carries legal consequences.

Astana police continue to monitor road conditions. Drivers are encouraged to plan their routes considering weather conditions and stay alert.

Earlier, meteorologists shared the weather forecast for Astana and Almaty on December 8–9. In the capital, cloudy skies, occasional snow, drifting snow, and ice glaze are expected. The wind will shift from the west to the northeast, with speeds ranging from 9 to 14 m/s. Temperatures will range from –3 to –5°C both day and night.
