Kazakhstani man sues police over a single digit

Tengrinews.kz — A resident of Zhambyl region sued the police over a single digit in his vehicle documents.
According to the specialized interdistrict administrative court of Zhambyl region, the man filed a lawsuit against the police department, demanding that an error in the vehicle registration certificate be corrected.
The case concerns a 2009 Nissan Tiida. When the vehicle was registered, an incorrect vehicle identification number (VIN) was entered in the documents — one of the digits did not match the car’s actual number.
An expert examination was conducted during the proceedings. Specialists established that the actual body number was factory-issued, had not been altered and did not match the data indicated in the registration documents.
Thus, the error occurred specifically in the information entered during the vehicle’s registration.
The court concluded that the authorized body had failed to take all necessary measures to objectively consider the car owner’s request and restore his violated rights. As a result of the case, the Zhambyl region police department was ordered to amend the registration certificate and correct the error in the VIN code.
In addition, the court issued a separate ruling addressed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs over violations of the requirements of the Administrative Procedural Code identified during the consideration of the citizen’s request.
The court decision has entered into legal force.
