Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, inaugurated a monument to Abai Kunanbaiuly in Ashgabat.
During the ceremony, Tokayev expressed his gratitude to Berdimuhamedov and the Turkmen people for awarding him the jubilee medal 'In Commemoration of the 300th Anniversary of Makhtumkuli Fraghi'.
He emphasized that this gesture symbolizes the strong understanding and friendship between the two nations.
In his speech, Tokayev called the unveiling of the monument a remarkable display of respect from the Turkmen people to the Kazakh nation.
"Abai is a global figure whose works have become a priceless heritage for all humanity. Monuments to Abai stand in many cities around the world. He dedicated his life to the enlightenment of his people, urging them to pursue knowledge and wisdom," Tokayev said.
He added that Abai's teachings on values like patriotism, hard work, and love for knowledge continue to resonate today.
Tokayev also highlighted the installation of a monument to Turkmen poet Makhtumkuli Fraghi in Astana earlier this year, underscoring the cultural connection between the two nations.
"The works of Abai and Makhtumkuli are treasures of the entire Turkic world, and it is our duty to preserve and pass them on to future generations," Tokayev stated.
He affirmed that the monument to Abai would serve as a lasting symbol of Kazakh-Turkmen friendship.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of preserving the legacies of great thinkers like Abai and Makhtumkuli for future generations.
"Today, we are unveiling a monument to the outstanding poet and philosopher of the Kazakh people, Abai Kunanbaiuly, in one of the most beautiful parks of Ashgabat. This is a significant event, and I congratulate everyone on this occasion," he said.
The event was attended by members of Kazakhstan's official delegation and Turkmenistan’s cultural representatives.
The ceremony also featured a performance by the dance group 'Kalkynish', celebrating the friendship between the two nations.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit.
