A new book by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev was presented in Astana on July 4, Tengrinews.kz reports. The book called Global Energy and Environmental Strategy of Sustainable Development in the 21st Century was presented at the 2nd ASTANA MINING & METALLURGY. The President’s Monography called Strategy of Radical Renewal of the Global Community and Partnership of Civilizations was published in 2009. It turned out to be not only contemporary, bit also prophetic, said the President of Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences Nurtai Abykayev. He noted that this was proved by the global events. “The book presented today is a logical continuation of the author’s works and represents a unique message for the world summit on stable development-2020 to be held next year,” Nurtai Abykayev said. In 2007 Nursultan Nazarbayev called for development of a global energy and environmental strategy that could be discussed at the world summit on sustainable development in Rio in 2012. “Over 20 thousand kW/hours per person is produced in the US, over 12-13 thousand in the EU, while only 6 thousand kW/hours per person is produced in Kazakhstan. In India and China less than one thousand kW/h per person is produced. Can you imagine? What would happen if every person gets enough energy to live well, like in the EU,” said the chairman of KazAtomProm National Atomic Company Vladimir Shkolnik. "A strange correlation has been recorded between economic and financial crisises and power supplies of certain countries and availability of energy sources. The ideas discussed in the book and the author’s approaches show the development vector and tell us what needs to be done,” Shkolnik said. “It is clear that they (alternative energy sources) cannot yet be the base sources of power for the civilization, but, of course, they have to be developed and we take it very seriously under the President’s direct instruction,” Shkolnik said speaking of development of alternative energy sources in Kazakhstan. According to Shkolnik, small “sun-and-wind” systems are already being produced in country. They allow providing electric energy to remote regions even at current costs and amid the lack of production. “I cannot help emphasizing development of solar energy. In line with the President’s and the Government’s instructions, our company is currently working on this issue. It is known that the amount of solar energy received by the Earth during one hour is enough to generate one year worth of power for the whole population of the Earth at its current efficiency,” Vladimir Shkolnik said. According to Shkolnik, it is currently the most fast-growing market in the world. “We hope that an up-to-date factory will be constructed by the end of next year. It will produce 50 megawatt of photoplates at the initial stage and then move on to producing 100 megawatt of photoplates per year and we will solve the problems of our remote regions and provide them with energy.” "This strategy, its provisions and development are very important in the context of current major global problems,” Vice-President of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Anatoliy Spitsyn said, commenting on Nazarbayev’s new book. “Nursultan Nazarbayev and his supporters are taking a huge step to solve the difficult issue of new modernization of the society that is being much more successful than those undertaken in the other CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries,” Spitsyn said. Kazakhstan Senator Anatoliy Bashmakov noted that the country’s legislative body adopted 10 laws on energy development this year. President of Moscow Institute of Steel and Allows Yuriy Karabassov said: “Thanks God, there is at least one president-metallurgist in the post-Soviet area.”
