The Astana ballet is presenting the premier of the From Century to Century classic ballet performance on January 28, at the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation in Astana, Tengrinews reports.
The two-part classic choreography performance unites three centuries of choreography. It includes scenes from Le Corsaire and routines created by the tremendous Russian dancer and choreographer Milkail Fokine and Anna Pavlova.
Kazakhstani dancers are performing masterpieces from the 19th and 20th centuries. The new program was prepared by St. Petersbourg-based choreographers Altynay Asylmuratova and Yelena Sherstneva. Asylmuratova, an ethnic Kazakh, is one of the brightest dancers of the Mariinsky Theatre and the first Russian ballet dancer to sign a contract with the ballet company at Covent Garden. Sherstneva is known for her unique dancing style.
“We have a number of premiers in this theatrical season. We opened the season with the Zhusan ballet. The one part ballet with a strong national theme impressed the audience. The creation of this particular ballet was not coincidental. The mission of the Astana ballet is in creation of unique choreographic works with a combinations of traditional national dance elements and classic choreography. At the same time the ballet company strives to incorporate the jewels of the world ballet created by the best choreographers. That's is why such names as Marius Petipa, Mikhail Fokine and Anna Pavlova are naturally present in the repertoire of our ballet company,” the Vice Director of the Astana ballet Asel Kurmanbayev said.
The Palace of Peace and Reconciliation is situated on 57 Tauelsizdik Avenue in Astana.
