Tengrinews.kz - A banana duct-taped to a wall, part of an installation by artist Maurizio Cattelan, has been sold at a Sotheby’s auction for $6.2 million (approximately 3.1 billion tenge).

The piece, titled Comedian, was purchased by Chinese crypto entrepreneur and art collector Justin Sun.

In a post on his social media account on X, Sun called the artwork a cultural phenomenon that "bridges the worlds of art, memes, and the cryptocurrency community." He also announced plans to eat the banana soon as part of a "unique artistic experience," paying homage to its significance in both art history and pop culture.

The installation will be delivered to the buyer with a certificate of authenticity and instructions on replacing the banana once it decomposes.
