December 2024: snowstorms, blizzards, and temperature fluctuations
December 2024 in Kazakhstan will be marked by frequent cyclones. Snowstorms, blizzards, and strong winds are expected across most of the country. In the southern regions, precipitation will fall as rain and wet snow, while in the mountainous areas, heavy snowfalls are possible. The west and south of the country will frequently experience icy conditions and dense fogs.
Temperature fluctuations
North and center:
In the first half of the month, temperatures at night will range from -18…-23°C to -7…-12°C, and during the day, from -4…+1°C to -8…-13°C. In the second half of the month, nights will become colder, reaching -25…-37°C, with daytime temperatures dropping to -15…-25°C, although in some days, the frost will ease.
South and southeast:
At night, temperatures will range from -10…-18°C to 0…-5°C, and during the day, from 0…-5°C to +3…+12°C. At the end of December, the cold may intensify to -15…-22°C at night and -5…-13°C during the day.
January and February 2025: weather within normal range
In January, the air temperature across most of Kazakhstan is expected to be close to the climate norm. Both snowy days and periods without precipitation are likely. In February, temperatures across much of the country will be 1 degree above average values.
"Overall, for the winter of 2024-2025, the temperature regime is expected to be within the climate norm, with precipitation amounts exceeding the long-term average. However, periods of no precipitation and abnormally low temperatures are also possible," forecasters summarized.
