Kazakhstani skier Alexey Poltoranin has won the fourth stage of the Tour de Ski, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
Poltoranin won the 10km individual classic in Toblach, Italy completing the distance in 22:51.8 seconds. Russian skier Evgeniy Belov arrived to the finish line 0.5 second after the Kazakhstani. Martin Johnsrud Sunby from Norway, the winner of the 2013–14 FIS Cross-Country World Cup, came third (22:56.0).
It was Poltoranin’s first victory in the new season of the Tour de Ski. Previously, the 27 y.o. Kazakh sportsman won the bronze of the World Championship in 2013. Poltoranin represented Kazakhstan at three Olympic Games in 2006 in Turin, 2010 in Vancouver and finally in 2014 in Sochi. Since Turin (39th place), Poltoranin has significantly improved his results and took the 14th place at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Currently, Poltoranin is 5th in the Tour de Ski overall standing.
