Kazakhstani boxers at World Championship in Doha

World Boxing Championship 2015 has taken place in Doha, Qatar, Tengrinews reports.

One of the biggest events in amateur boxing was organized by AIBA, the Qatar Boxing Federation and Local Organizing Committee. The Championship run from October 5 to 15.

Kazakhstan's national team, one of the strongest teams in the sport, was not very successful at the World Championship this year.

The captain of the team Daniyar Yeleussinov lost to Mohammed Rabii from Morocco in the final bout of the welterweight division (-69 kg).

"I am not sick and I have no health issues. But as you saw what happened. The defeat needs to be analyzed. I showed everything I had. But I will be more than ready for the Olympics. Serik Sapiev before his victory in London (at the Olympic) also got silver in Baku (at the World Championship). I have a license for the Olympics so I will do my best there," Yeleussinov said.

Super heavy weight (+91 kg) Ivan Dychko, too, lost in the final bout. French Tony Yoka outclassed the Kazakhstani and took the gold.

"We have the second silver medal at the World Championship. It is an achievement but it does not make me happy. It is not my first medal. I am aiming for gold, but Tony Yoka delivered a good fight. I think I did well in the fight. (…) I did my best," Dychko said after the fight.

Kazakhstan's national team finished the championship with only 2 silver medals. The team this year brought eight boxers to the championship. As a result, Kazakhstan landed on the 8th place in the overall standing. Cuba gathered 4 gold medals at the Championship. Russia took 2 gold medals while Azerbaijan got 1 gold.  

As of now, Kazakhstan has four spots for the Rio Olympics in boxing. Berik Abdrakhmanov was the first Kazakhstani boxer to qualify for the Olympics in 2016. Later, heavyweight (-91 kg) from Astana Arlans boxing club Vasiliy Levit brought Kazakhstan the second license for the Olympics. In July, Birzhan Zhakipov was the third Kazakh fighter to qualify for the Rio. Finally, Yeleussinov ensured his ticket to the Olympics hoping to repeat the success of another welterweight Sapiev.
