Car access to the center of Almaty, the biggest city in Kazakhstan, should be restricted, KazTag Agency reports, citing the country’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev as saying January 9. “I have tasked Mr. Akhmetzhan Yessimov, the current Almaty mayor, with restricting car access to the city center. (…) Those travelling from the suburbs should leave their private cars on the outskirts and rely on public transport to reach the city center”, President said when rewarding outstanding literature and arts figures at his Almaty-based residence January 9. He emphasized that Almaty needs to opt for more environmentally friendly cars. “Only cars with smallest possible exhaust should be allowed to be sold in Almaty (…) It is important to use only high-octane gasoline and make sure car engines are properly serviced”, he said.
