Kazakhstan will render aid to hungry people of Somalia, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ministry.
“Kazakhstan being a responsible member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and chairing the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers is planning to make its donation to the coalition’s budget. The Final Declaration of Istanbul meeting called OIC member-states to render financial aid to Somalia and other needy African countries during the the holy month of Ramadan,” Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry’s official representative said.
African countries were suffering from drought, strongest in the last 60 years, which - coupled with the unrest - has become the reason for grave humanitarian crisis. Main sources of food for local population were destroyed. According to the United Nations, over 11 million people need urgent humanitarian aid (these are residents of Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and other countries).
An urgently called Istanbul conference on July 29 made a decision to create the OIC humanitarian coalition to render aid to hungry countries. The budget of the OIC urgent humanitarian aid for the next three months is $29 million.
