Deputy of Japanese parliament Hiroyuki Moriyama who initiated nomination of Nazarbayev for the Nobel Peace Prize has shared his opinion on construction of a nuclear power station in Kazakhstan and on the possible placement of the nuclear fuel bank in the country, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Safe implementation of these projects in Kazakhstan requires the brain of the whole humankind. On the other hand, there is a public opinion in Japan that the nuclear energy project should not be continued. But the problem is that Japan get frequently hit by earthquakes and there are none of those in the east of Kazakhstan. This makes a big difference,” Hiroyuki told the journalists on the sidelines of the anti-nuclear conference in Astana. “This has to be discussed. It depends on the location of the future nuclear power station,” he added. Besides, he explained that the nuclear fuel bank is currently an important issue for Japan. “Japan has difficulties in usage or storage of nuclear wastes. Right now Japan has nowhere to deliver the nuclear wastes, that’s why the nuclear fuel bank is a good idea. We are ready to positively discuss this issue,” deputy said. Hiroyuki Moriyama also explained his intention to nominate Nursultan Nazarbayev for Nobel Peace Prize. “We have come to a conclusion that Nazarbayev deserves the Nobel Prize for his initiative to strive for nuclear weapons-free world. So we decided to call Japanese deputies to recommend Nazarbayev for the award. Many Japanese deputies agreed. We hope to get the good news this autumn,” he said. By Renat Tashkinbayev
