A military drone crashed not far from Balkuduk village in Atyrau oblast. According to Ak Zhaiyk, the incident happened at night of April 19. The newspaper suggested that the drone was launched from Russian military site Ashuluk located close to the same-name railroad station in the neighboring Astrakhan oblast of Russia. Local citizens were first to report the incident and later the fact of the crash was confirmed by the Emergency Situation Department of Kazakhstan. “The drone without certain identification marking crashed 12km north-east of Balkuduk village at 06:30 p.m. on April 19. The emergency team, prosecutors, police and near-border services were dispatched to the accident site,” head of the regional Emergency Situation Department Zhamangarin was quoted as saying. After the crash the drone fell into three pieces. It was 12 meters long with the wing spread of 2.5 meters. The wreckage of the drone has red stars painted on it and signs in Russian. The radiation background was measured at the accident site; all the indicators were normal and no harm was caused to animals or humans. The drone’s wreckage will be transferred to Russian services. Later Interfax-Kazakhstan reported that the wreckage of the drone discovered in Atyrau oblast were parts of a Russian target. “A target used for confirmation of characteristics or testing of rocketry fell in Akkoldeu area,” the source in Kazakhstan law-enforcement authorities said. According to him, the target is owned by Russian military services and “flew off to the Kazakhstan territory accidentally”.
