A delegation of Kazakhstan's Foreign Affairs Ministry led by Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kairat Sarybay have been robbed in the Republic of South Africa last week. The delegation has already returned to Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports. "On Wednesday evening a group of armed people blocked the delegation's cars on their way for the international airport of Johannesburg to Pretoria, and then robbed them. None of the delegation members got hurt," Itar-Tass newswire reported on Friday, October 11, citing African local media. Kazakhstan Vice-Minister Sarybai was on his way to a meeting with this South African colleague to discuss preparation of the visit of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev to RSA. The robbed Kazakhstan delegation returned home on Saturday, according to the Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry's press-service. "Law enforcement authorities of the Republic of South Africa provided aid to the delegation. They are investigating the incident. The delegation has returned home," the Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry reported. According to the Ministry, the head of the delegation Kairat Sarybai was in a different car and was not part of the said incident. In spite of the incident Foreign Ministries of Kazakhstan and RSA had the third round of political consultations in Pretoria later last week on October 10. The meeting was led by Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kairat Sarybai and Vice-Minster of Foreign Affairs of RSA Ibrahim Ibrahim. They discussed preparation and organization of the first state visit of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to RSA scheduled for the beginning of December 2013. They discussed the agenda of the bilateral negotiations, preparations of intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents for signing. The documents include drafts of a trade-and-economic agreement and an agreement on interaction in environmental protection. Besides, they discussed the current state and prospects of development of bilateral relations, plans of expansion of Kazakhstan's cooperation with African countries and interaction within international and regional organizations, including the UN, African Union, Pan-African Parliament and other institutes. The next round of negotiations will be held in Astana in 2014. Besides, Sarybai had meetings with heads of states bodies and business leaders of the RSA to discuss holding a business-forum during the visit of the Kazakhstan President to the RSA.
