Zhanaozen got flooded with leaflets with the threats to police officers who will give witness testimony at the coming trial over organizers of the December clashes, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports.

"The leaflets were found in Koktem region of Zhanaozen at 08:30 a.m. on March 12. The leaflets stated the names of our officers and contained threats to kill their families and burn their houses if they give the testimonies," head of oblast Interior Department Meirkhan Zhamanbayev told journalists in Aktau. According to him, one of the leaflets was meant for the deputy head of the investigations department of Zhanaozen Interior Department, who is also supposed to give witness testimony.

An investigation group was created and sent to Zhanaozen the same day. "Tamara Sergaziyeva was apprehended during the investigation. Her husband is currently under arrest for organization of the clashes. Scissors, tape and several leaflets were found in her purse. She confessed that she had more leaflets at home. The total of 20 leaflets were seized. When we apprehended her, she said that she did not want our officers to go to court and say that her husband took part in the clashes, so that the court could not prove his involvement in the riots," Zhamanbayev said.

The woman was put under arrest for three days. "Criminal case was initiated on the threats. We are currently finding out who wrote and printed these leaflets," head of the oblast police added.

The clashes happened in Zhanaozen and Shetpe village on December 16-17. 15 people were killed and over 100 people were wounded. 7 organizers and 36 active members of the riots have been identified and brought to liability. The investigation of the clashes is over and the materials have been transferred to court. The trial will be public.
