A deputy of the Kazakhstan Majilis (Lower Chamber of the Parliament) Mukhtar Tinikeyev has called for removal of the Almaty Interior Department head Kairat Tynybekov from the position, Tengrinews.kz reports. He believes that the head of Almaty Interior Department failed to do his duties and ensure safety of Almaty citizens during the concert. When the concert went sour the audience damaged expensive equipment, crashed and burnt several cars and rampaged Prime Plaza mall and several smaller shops and left 16 people heavily injured. “When a large-scale event is planned in the city the head of the Interior Department is responsible for ensuring security at the event beforehand and make sure there is enough police around to maintain order. The mob caused damage to shops, cafes and people,” Tinikeyev said. “In my opinion, he should be removed from the office. We can forget the sheep running around the center of Almaty city. But we cannot forgive him for the incident with the concert. He failed to perform his duties. A big city like Almaty needs a strict general.” Speaking about the sheep the Majilis deputy referred to the recent incident branded the "sheep marathon" in Almaty. A video was uploaded on the Internet of dozens of sheep running in the middle of the road on Ryskulov street in Almaty. They were first moving unattended but later a police expert joined them and accompanied them away from the city center. Later it was found that a resident of Ili region of Almaty Oblast was transporting the herd in a truck through Almaty along Ryskulov street when a side of his truck flipped open and the herd run off. The press-release of Almaty administration said that it was the acting head of the Almaty Interior Department Kanat Taimerdenov who reported to Akim (Mayor) Yessimov on the situation around Prime Plaza. However, the Department’s press-service has not given any official comments or confirmation. Tynybekov was appointed head of Almaty Interior Department in 2012. Late on August 31 around 2000 people gathered near Prime Plaza mall for a concert of a famous Kazakh pop singer Kairat Nurtas. The concert did not start on time and then the singer left the stage without even finishing the first song. The disappointed crowd started breaking through the fencing then raged at the parking lot and the ground floor of the mall shattering windows and crashing the equipment. The mob was using stones and glass bottles. The damage to the concert equipment alone is estimated at more than 150 thousand dollars. The crowd was dispersed, the police got the situation under control and fully stopped the raging by 11:00 p.m. By Roza Yessenkulova
