High salaries don’t mean high standards of living: survey

Samruk Kazyna has released the preliminary findings of its Rating of Social Stability project. The project involves monitoring of moods of employees of the companies that are part of Samruk Kazyna holding.

The polls included 60 questions, such as if they are satisfied with their salaries, atmosphere at work, employee relations, medical package, accommodation, is they attend interest groups and etc.

The survey showed that Pavlodar oblast and Uralsk region are experiencing the most tension. Initiators of the survey have recommended the companies to review their social guarantees, approach to labor conditions and salaries.

Things are best in Atyrau oblast and Almaty oblast

The sociologists hope that the survey will help identify and prevent conflicts, find timely solutions and prevent escalations of protests similar to those that happened in Zhanaozen single-industry town in western Kazakhstan in July 2102.

Special attention was given to Mangistau oblast in western Kazakhstan. The survey showed that high salaries in the region do not necessarily mean high life standards.

The National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna is a national holding that owns, in whole or in part, important companies of Kazakhstan including the rail and postal services, oil and gas company KazMunaiGas, uranium company KazAtomProm and Air Astana airlines.
