An unusual creature that looks like a tadpole shrimp of Branchiopoda class was found in one of the lakes of South Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Emergency Department of the region. The animal is 5 cm length long, it has a long bifurcated tail, thin carapace and numerous pairs of legs.

Local residents brought it to the rescuers after they caught the unknown crustacean. Tadpole shrimps usually have solid carapace and around 70 pairs of legs. These animals live in still waters. None of such creatures are known to inhabit lakes in Kazakhstan, though.

It is not a sole case when an out-of-place marine creature is caught in Kazakhstan these years: fishermen of Pavlodar oblast caught a piranha in the Irtysh River in 2012. The weight of the catch was 2 kilograms. The fish must have been released into the river from a private aquarium, Kazakhstan ichthyologists assumed.
