Former convicts to build EXPO-2017 facilities in Kazakhstan05 june 2014, 00:19
Former prisoners will build EXPO-2017 facilities in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of Astana.
Today, a memorandum of cooperation initiated by the Prosecutor's Office of Astana was signed between Astana EXPO-2017, the national company that manages preparations for the EXPO 2017 in Astana, and the city's Penal System Department and its Yenbek (Labor) company. The goal of the agreement is to facilitate employment of convicts serving their sentences in Astana's penal institutions through obtaining government procurement orders for manufacturing of goods, and facilitate employment of former convicts in contractor companies that will be working on construction of venues for the international exhibition.
The Prosecutor's Office is sure that the "cooperation between the national company and the penal system will be mutually beneficial, provide a large number of convicts with paid jobs for the next 2-3 years, and boost production in penal institutions of Astana."
The memorandum envisions creation of a work group that will be in charge of its implementation, while the Astana Prosecutor's Office will be monitor the process.
