Dozens of buildings in Shaulder village of South-Kazakhstan oblast are being heated with water from thermal springs, Tengrinews.kz reports. The unusual way of heating is used in 22 apartment buildings, as well as by 20 commercial organizations. Besides, the natural thermal power plant also covers 10 budget organizations. The temperature in the buildings is around 25 degrees above zero. "We now have heating in the apartments, now children can play in all rooms. Plus we are paying less for heating. I pay 2,800 tenge ($18.7) for a 2-bedroom apartment. This is nothing compared to the time when we had to buy fire wood and coal," Bakytgul Auyelbekova, a resident of Shaulder village said. The local utilities services have started using the alternative way of heating this year. According to head of the housing and utilities department of Atyrar region, they are currently bearing exploitation costs only, as almost all heating pipes were replaced in the buildings. Besides, they also manage to save power. The official promise to cover all residents of Shaulder village with the new heating generated by thermal springs. Besides, the thermal springs are good for people's health^ the officials say: people drink the water for its chemical composition and use it for healing baths. Thermal springs are used for heating and as an alternative power source around the world. Reykjavik (capital of Iceland) is fully heated by thermal waters. Italy, Iceland, Mexico, Russia, the U.S. and Japan have power plants that work on overheated thermal waters with temperatures of over 100 degrees Centigrade.
