Wrestling: Olympic bronze prize-winner Daniyal Gajiyev gets $75,000

Kazakhstan’s Greco-Roman wrestler Daniyal Gajiyev, who won bronze at the London Olympics, will get a money prize of $75,000, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to Uralskaya Nedelya newspaper. Gajiyev, 26, Master of Sports, is a resident of Uralsk town and is caped for West Kazakhstan oblast’s team. Daniyal was born in Dagestan in the city of Kizilyurt. He joined Kazakhstan team in 2011. He trains in Daulet Turlykhanov Sports School. One of his sports achievements is the title of champion of Russia among youth in under 23 age group. He was the winner of the Asian Olympic Qualifications and became second in the 2012 World Vehbi Emre tournament that was held in Turkey. He is also the winner of Kazakhstan international tournament in commemoration of Academician Saparbayev. Gajiyev, 84-kg weight division wrestler, won Olympic bronze by winning over Georgia’s Vladimir Gegeshidze. He won the seventh Olympic medal for Kazakhstan. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that Kazakhstan authorities promised to award Olympic champions with $250,000 (for a gold medal), $150,000 (for a silver medal) and $75,000 (for a bronze medal).
