Precisely 8 years ago, Gennady Golovkin debuted as a professional boxing to become the current WBA and IBO world Middleweight champion and one of the top 25 best boxers according to Bleacher Report.

Golovkin is on the 9th place of the rating of the best boxers of the world. Floyd Maywether is number one in the rating. Andre Ward follows in the second place and Philipino Manny Pacquiao comes third.

In 8 years of his professional boxing the undefeated boxer from Kazakhstan had 29 fights and finished 26 of them with KOs. His 30th fight will take place on July 19th in Los Angeles. GGG was supposed to face the former Middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (48-1-1, 32KOs).

But Chavez was displeased with the contract offered to him by Top Rank. The Mexican boxer was especially not happy with the guaranteed minimum per fight offered by Top Rank. The management of Top Rank said that even if Golovkin-Chavez fight would not work out, GGG would still have a fight on July 19th but in New York instead of Los Angeles and with a different boxer.

Chavez was defeated by Sergio Gabriel Martinez in 2012. Golovkin on numerous occasions expressed his wish to fight Martinez. Hopefully for the Kazakhstani boxer, the fight with Chavez would bring him closer to his goal of defeating Martinez in future.
