There is more to Golovkin than everyone thinks: Sapiyev, Shaw and Geale comment on Golovkin-Geale fight28 july 2014, 23:32
Sapiyev said that he had not anticipated that Golovkin would finish the fight in the third round. “I though it would happen sometime in the sixth round. So the conclusion is that Gena (Gennady) is much stronger than everyone thinks. It was great to see so many Kazakhstanis cheering for Golovkin. (…) Unfortunately, I could not go to New York myself. Usually I do not miss a chance to support Gena near the ring,” a Vel Barker Cup winner, the most technical boxer of the London Olympics 2012, said.
After winning Daniel Geale, Golovkin challenged Miguel Cotto and Peter Quillin. “(Golovkin-Cotto) fight is possible, but no sooner than next year. He is a good fighter. If they agree on the fight it will be a spectacular show,” Sapiyev, who won gold at the 2012 London Olympics, added.
“He's quick. I think I fell into a couple of his traps. I was really disappointed in myself. Things were going right early on and I guess that's what happens when you relax a little bit. I got caught. I would have liked to go a few more rounds, but what can you do?" Geale said after the fight.
Geale’s promoter Gary Show told Golovkin that he was better than what everybody else said. “In all my years in boxing, he's the best 160-pounder I've ever seen. He has all the tools and all the moves. (…)The better man won tonight. There's nobody in 160, 154 and I'm not sure there's anyone at 168 who could be competitive with him for 12 rounds except maybe Andre Ward,” Show said.
