Lyubov Assanova from Temirtau city (Karaganda oblast), sportswoman and active participant of marathon races, has been awarded with the Ambassador of Peace title, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing KazTAG.

“The initiative to award Assanova with Ambassador of Peace honorary title was spearheaded by UNESCO Education, Culture, Science and Sport Commission. The international organization has distinguished the sportswoman's merit in “strengthening of peace and security by extension of cooperation between states and nations,” the oblast's Sports Department said.

54-y.o. Assanova works at the State Archive. She is a USSR Master of Sports in cycling, Honorary Sports Ambassador of Kazakhstan, member of the Ultramarathon International Association. She has been running for 25 years and has covered 33 classical marathon distances. Lyubov is a multiple champion of Kazakhstan among veterans. Assanova became the winner of Europe-Asia International Istanbul Marathon and won a silver medal in Saint Petersburg Lifeline Route Marathon. Prominent Karaganda Marathon runners Pavel Sirotin and Oleg Seleznev hold Ambassador of Peace titles, too.
