The sports sites that were constructed for the VII Asian Winter Games won’t stand idle. Different sports events will be held at the international ski jump complex in Almaty, as well as at the Skating Rink and the National Cycle Track in Astana by the end of 2011, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Kazakhstan Tourism and Sport Ministry’s sports administration.

For example, one of the stages of Ski Jump World Cup will be held on August 28-30 in Kazakhstan. 500 sportsmen from 45 countries will take part at the Cycle track World Cup stage that will start on November 4. 2011-2012. One of the Speed Skating World Cup stages is planned to be held on November 27-30 in Astana.

The Bandy World Cup (Russian hockey with a ball) will take place at Medeu high-mountain skating rink near Almaty in January, 2012, the sports administration reported.

Karim Massimov has made arrangements for the Asian Winter Games sites being available for everybody, Tengrinews.kz reported earlier. Prime-Minister Karim Massimov said that hosting of the Asian Winter Games should help involve more people into sports activities. Irak Yelekeyev, Majilis deputy (the Lower Chamber of the Parliament), even suggested to transfer the sports sites into the possession of state universities.

The 2011 Asian Winter Games took place in two Kazakhstan cities on January 30 – February 6. Kazakhstan sportsmen have won the maximum number of medals in their history of participation in the Asian Games: 32 gold, 21 silver and 17 bronze medals.
