Speed and punching power key to Golovkin's success in heavier weight divisions: Vassily Jirov20 february 2015, 19:34
Kazakhstani Olympic champion, IBF cruiserweight champion and Val Barker Trophy holder Vassily Jirov has commented on Gennady Golovkin’s move to a heavier weight division, Tengrinews reports.
For Golovkin, according to Jirov, it is important to retain his speed and punching power. The Balkhash native (a town in central Kazakhstan) said that the trainers of the WBA Super, IBO and WBC Interim middleweight champion from Kazakhstan could have already outlined a plan in case he moves up in the weight category.
“What does Golovkin need to consider in case he changes his weight division? I think, his trainers have already formed a plan. Personally, I would advise him not to lose his spend and retain his knockout punch. These two characteristics could be critical for Gennady Golovkin’s success,” Zhirov said.

Vassiliy “The Tiger” Jirov had 38 wins and 32 KOs. Jirov lost only three fights and ended one fights in a draw. After retiring from boxing, Jirov opened his own gym where he trains boxing and self-defense. “I teach them healthy lifestyle that includes the correct way of thinking, healthy eating habits and following the call of one own heart,” Jirov said.
Meanwhile, Golovkin is waiting for his fight against Martin Murray in Monte Carlo. Earlier today the boxers have had the official press conference, weight in and face off.
The highly anticipated Golovkin-Murray fight takes place at the Salle des Etoiles arena on February 21. Kazakhstan TV channel will streaming the fight live.
