17-y.o. Russian tennis professional Yuliya Putintseva has become a citizen of Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Sportlive.kz.

“I have changed citizenship and it is a serious and well-weighed step for me and for my parents. We have been thinking over it for a long time before we came to the reasonable and level-headed decision,” Putintseva said. She is sure that there are all the necessary facilities for tennis professionals in Kazakhstan and these facilities will allow her to make a good progress. “Here there is access to all the professional tennis facilities. Kazakhstan authorities fund all the tennis players’ trips to tournaments in accordance with their professional schedule,” Putintseva added.

The tennis professional is going to join Kazakhstan's national tennis team. She is also going to compete in Fed Cup and the Olympic Games for Kazakhstan national team.

Putintseva was offered to be caped for Kazakhstan in October 2011. Earlier other Russian tennis professionals – Yaroslava Shvedova, Galina Voskoboyeva, Sesil Karatantcheva - had changed their citizenship and became Kazakhstan citizens. Putintseva is ranked 124th in the WTA rating.
