Olympics: Kazakhstan ahead of Germany in medal count

The gold medal won by Kazakhstan athlete Olga Rypakova boosted Kazakhstan's standing in the medal count of the London Olympics. After the ninth day of the Games, Kazakhstan team is ranked 7th, ahead of Germany, Tengrinews.kz reports.

Kazakhstan now has 6 gold medals of London Olympics-2012 won by cyclist Aleksandre Vinokourov, weight-lifters Zulfiya Chinshanlo, Maiya Maneza, Svetlana Podobedova, Ilya Ilyin and athlete Olga Rypakova.

Germany is ranked 8th with 5 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze medals. Russia is ranked 9th with 4 gold, 16 silver and 15 bronze medals. China still leads the rating (30 gold, 17 silver and 14 bronze medals). It is followed by the U.S. (28, 14, 18), Great Britain (16, 11, 11), South Korea (10, 4, 6), France (8, 8, 9) and Italy (6, 5, 3).
