Lemieux has a chance to beat Golovkin: Willie Monroe01 сентября 2015, 22:52
Willie Monroe, Gennady Golovkin’s former opponent has given an advise to David Lemieux, who is fighting the undefeated Kazakhstani on October 17, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
"The thing I will give Lemieux is when I fought Golovkin, in close quarters is where I was getting off, and that's not even my forte. Lemieux is very sharp and good in close quarters with those uppercuts, so if he could make Golovkin respect his power, which I'm pretty sure he can, and stay at close quarters, he can make it a really rough night for Golovkin," Monroe told Fighthype.com.
Monroe added that he had given Golovkin some problems during the May fight. That being said, the American boxer was knocked down three times before the TKO in the 6th round.
Golovkin is fighting Lemieux on October 17 at Madison Square Garden. The title unification fight will be on HBO PPV.
Meanwhile, Golovkin's promoter Tom Loeffler said that the boxer should not be criticized for not having big fighters, Boxingscene.com reported. "(Fans) should criticize the other fighters in the division for not fighting him. We have gone great lengths to try to make big fights with Gennady and the other champions don't want to fight him," the promoter said.
In turn, Golovkin' coach Abel Sanchez added that if the winner of the Cotto-Alvarez fight refused to fight despite the rules set by WBC, Triple G would focus on other middleweight champions.
"The pre-sale sold 6000 (tickets in a couple of hours). In one week, they've sold 15 (thousand tickets). We haven't got an update since yesterday, so it could be up to 16 of 17. The Garden is going to be sold out. The reason it's going to be sold out is because we're really giving the fans what they're asking for. Whether it's one round or 10 round fight, it's going to be war inside the ring. Golovkin is giving the fans what they want to see. He’s giving them destruction. Unfortunately, we live in a morbid society. People want to see somebody get knocked out and get hurt. If you give the fans the type of fight that excites them, they're going to come out. In this fight there’s a similar fighter on the other side, so they're responding even better,” Sanchez said via Boxingnews 24.
Is Monroe was right about Lemieux's chances to win Golovkin? Will Triple G finally get his hands on the WBC title? All that will be clear after the October and November fights.
