Kazakhstan fighter Nurken Tolegenov has become the world kickboxing champion, Vesti.kz reports.

The WAKO World Championship for Low Kick and K-1 was held in Guaruja city, Brazil from September 28 to October 6, 2013. 413 athletes from 38 countries participated in the championship. Tolegenov had no equals in the -51kg division.

Besides Tolegenov's gold, the Kazakhstan national team brought one silver and two bronze medals. Baurzhan Artykbayev (-75kg) won silver, losing his final bout to Khasan Khaliyev from Turkey. Zakhar Vorobei and Baurzhan Kudaibergenov won bronze medals at the tournament.

As a result Kazakhstan had the 11th place by the medal count.

World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) holds world championships every two years, with youth (18 and under) and adults (18–45) on separate years; only national teams are admitted. Each member country can present only one competitor in each weight class. Competitors are commonly the national champion of their weight class in that particular kickboxing style and many are also officially recogni`ed by their National Olympic Committees or Ministries of Sports.
