Kazakhstan's Proto Overdrive has burnt to aches at the second stage of Dakar 2014 marathon rally, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

The crew of Baurzhan Issabayev and Gabdulla Ashimov had to withdraw from the race after the second stage on January 6, 2014. Their car, Proto Overdrive #368, caught fire on the way from San Luis to San Rafael. The day's route was 798km long with 433km is special section.

Earlier during the stage Issabayev and Ashimov had a flat and had to replace a tire. They put the bad tire into the car, because the Dakar rules forbid leaving tires on the route. At kilometer 310 in Argentina the car started burning. The bad tire is believed to be the source of fire: it allegedly inflamed because of the sun and hot wind.

The fire destroyed almost the whole vehicle. None of the racers were injured.

“What a day! But despite all difficulties we are still in good shape. The marathon is on,” the famous truck race from Kazakhstan Artur Ardavishus said after the second stage.

There are now only three crews from Kazakhstan left at Dakar 2014.

The crew of Aidyn Rakhimbayev and Vladimir Demyanenko (#342) finished the second stage in the 31st place and completed the third stage on January 7 in the 20th place.

The crew of Denis Berezovsky and Ignat Falkov (#413) became 66th at the second stage and finished the third one in the 63rd place.

And Tatra truck of Artur Ardavishus and Alexey Nikizhev ended the second stage in the 26th place and won the 23th place in the third one.

Rakhimbayev/Demyanenko and Berezovsky/Falkov crew competing in the Car Class are in the 20th and 57th places in the rally’s general ranking. The Truck Class crew of Ardavishus/Nikizhev is in the 22nd place in the general ranking.
