Kazakhstan wins 8 medals at Youth Olympic Games in China

Kazakhstan athletes have won a total of eight medals at the Second Youth Olympic Games held in Nanjing, China on August 16-28, 2014, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kzThis year, they got 3 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals.

With these 8 medals, Kazakhstan ranks 21st in the country standings. China leads the ranking with 65 medals in total, followed by Russia and mixed-NOCs that are teams made up of athletes representing different National Olympic Committees.

Kazakh judoka Bauyrzhan Zhauyntayev won gold in the 55-kg weight category defeating Azerbaijani Natig Gurbanly in the final round.

Kazakh boxer Abylaikhan Zhussupov gained victory in the 60-kg weight category after his final match with Cuban Alain Limonta Buda that ended with a score of 2:1.

Kazakh wrestler Mukhambet Kuatbek became a gold prizewinner, beating Russian Amirhan Guvazhokov (3:1), Armenian Vaginak Matevosyan (3:0), Brahma Richards from New Zealand (4:0) and Venezuelan Eliezer Aulara (4:1).

Kazakh boxer Vadim Kazakov became a silver prizewinner, after yielding victory to Bulgarian Blagoja Naydenov with the score of 0:3.

Bronze medals were earned by Kazakh Greco-Roman wrestler Yevgeniy Polivadov, weightlifters Zhaslan Kaliyev and Tatyana Kapustina, and Kazakhstan’s gymnasts Viktoriya Guslyakova, Amina Kozhakhmet, Nuray Kumarova, Dariya Medvedeva, Aliya Moldakhmetova.

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is an international multi-sport event organized by the International Olympic Committee. The games are held every four years in summer and winter.

This year, around 3,600 athletes from 201 nations participated in the Games.
