Kazakhstan sportsmen won 20 gold medals in the Jujitsu World Championship in Peru

Kazakhstan fighters won 20 gold medals in the Jujitsu World Championship in Peru, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Sayat Yerzhanov, the president of Jujitsu and Shin Aikido Federation. Five Jujitsu and Shin Aikido Federation fighters took part in the competition. Two more Kazakhstan sportsmen represented Jujitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation. “Aktore Turar won three gold medals among young and three gold medals among adults. It is the first victory like this in the history of Kazakhstan's Jujitsu. Kanat Dosmagambetov gained five gold medals. He could have won the sixth one as well, but he had a match against his friend. So, Kanat gained five gold medals and two silver medals. Of course, we are proud of these guys,” Sayat Yerzhanov said. According to Sayat Yerzhanov, the new champions had many times participated and won pankration and hand-to-hand fighting tournaments among young and among adults before their triumph in Peru. As a result Kazakhstan jujitsu fighters managed to win 20 highest awards and 4 silver medals in the championship. According to Sayat Yerzhanov, the Federation managed to bring the talented youth abroad only with sponsor's and parents' support. The flights to Peru and back alone was worth 400 000 tenge ($2700), without counting board and lodging expenses. In total around $5000 was required for each sportsman. The Akimat (city administration) of Taldykorgan was the only government institution that supported two Kazakhstan sportsmen. Now Jujitsu and Shin Aikido Federation plans to organize Jujitsu sport clubs to make the sport more available to the population, to attract more sponsors and, if possible, to attract the government to support this martial art. Now the branches of the Federation, operating in almost every town of Kazakhstan work on self-support basis and owing to trainers enthusiasm. If Jujitsu is included into the list of Olympic sports, there would be a hope that the authorities would support the sport in Kazakhstan.
