International team of alpinists who ascended K2 mount on August 23 arrived in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports.

Gerlinda Kaltenbrunner from Austria, Ralf Dujmovits from Germany and Darek Zalusky from Poland arrived in Almaty with Kazakhstan alpinists Maksut Zhumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov. Argentinean photographer Tommy Heinrich left the team in Kyrgyzstan and went home via Pakistan.

“It is not really possible to express what we have done with words. This is something unbelievable. Anyway this is our common victory. Support of our friends and families helped us ascend K2. We felt that you were praying for us and it gave us additional strength,” Zhumayev said after arrival in Kazakhstan.

This ascent made Zhumayev, Pivtsov and Kaltenbrunner part of the elite club of alpinists who ascended all 14 8-thousanders of the world. The Austrian alpinist says that one of the most difficult moments for her was the decision to separate with he husband Ralf Dujmovits, who withdrew from the ascent in the course of the final attempt. “It was actually very difficult, but I believed that I could do it with Kazakhstan climbers. That's why Ralf could accept my decision.”

Dujmovits did not go into the details of this episode: “When I watched the four climbers from the base camp, I felt a tug at my heartstrings. But when I saw Gerlinda at the top, it was the happiest moment of my life.”

Kazakhstan alpinists are not making plans for the nearest future. “Right now all our thoughts are about our wives and kids. We need to process everything that has happened. Then we will see. There is life ahead!” Zhumayev said.

Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that August 23 four alpinists reached the top of Chogori mount after eight days of fighting against bad weather, deep snow and severe frost. Kazakhstan prime-Minister Karim Massimov was one of the first to congratulate the alpinistson their victory. The sportsmen also received greetings from the President of Austria Heinz Fischer, representatives of Nur Otan party, Cesnabank and management of Tabigat ecological union.
