Kazakhstan Muay Thai team won 8 medals in Championship of Europe

24 april 2012, 11:40
Kazakhstan Muay Thai team has won eight medals in the Championship of Europe in Turkey, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Farkhat Amankulov, vice-president of Kazakhstan Muay Thai Federation.

The fighters gained one gold and seven bronze medals. Rassul Manapov, 45 kilogram weight league fighter, won gold. Ishan Galiyev (51 kg), Ilyas Mussin (54 kg), Damir Tolenov (57 kg), Alfarabi Koybagarov (60 kg), Zhanserik Amirzhanov (63.5 kg) and Almaz Smagulov (71 kg) got the bronze medals. Damir Tynybayev, one more 63.5-kilogram boxer, became third in the European Cup tournament.

Amankulov said that Kazakhstan muay thai boxers had counted on more awards in the Turkey tournament. However they encountered preconceived refereeing during the Championship. Almaz Smagulov lost to eight-time world champion Belorussian Vitaliy Burkov in the semi-final match. “The score was even: 38:38. The judge awarded the victory to Burkov although Smagulov was the boxer who won, because he prevailed in two last rounds,” Muay Thai Federation’s vice-president commented.

The Championship of Europe is the main qualification tournament prior to the World Championship that will be held in September in Saint-Petersburg. The final national team’ squad will be defined according to the results of Open Asian Championship that will be held in May.
