Ilya Ilyin won gold in World Championship in Paris

Kazakhstan weight lifter Ilya Ilyin won a gold medal in the World Championship in Paris, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to the official website of the competition.

Ilyin lifted 407 kilograms in total after two exercises in his 94 kilograms weight league. It is worth noting that the Beijing Olympic champion showed only the fifth best result in snatch lifting 181 kilograms. However, Ilya was the best in clean and jerk exercise. He showed 226 kilograms in his second attempt. He didn't try to beat the world record of 227 kilos.

Ukrainian Artem Ivanov also lifted 407 kilograms in total after two exercises. However, Ilya Ilyin's rival turned out to be 140 grammes heavier than Kazakhstan weight lifter. Iranian Said Mohammadpur Karkara won the bronze medal in the French Championship. The new anthem of the Republic of Kazakhstan was playing for Ilyin during the awarding ceremony.

This is the second gold medal Kazakhstan weight lifters won in the World Weight-lifting Champion in Paris. Earlier Zulfiya Chinshanlo also won gold in the Championship. Svetlana Podobedova and Maya Maneza fought for gold, but managed to won only silver medals.
