The weightlifter is happy with his the results at the Anatoly Khrapatov's Tournament. “I think it all went great considering that I had not competed for two years. It was my start,” Iliyn said. He added that the results were impressive. “I added lots of kilos in snatch, just as I expected. In clean and jerk training I had not jerked 185 ever since London and that was the first time I did. I think I did my best and it was 100% a success. But there are still things I need to work on in while preparing for the world championship. I think I will achieve pretty good results. I will put up a good fight and have 99.9% chances of getting the gold,” Ilyin said.
The weightlifter is an excellent shape. Ilyin said that before the tournament his weight was 107.4 kilos. The two-times Olympic champion in 94 kilos weight category decided to switch to the 105 kilo league.
Ilyin did not win the tournament that was his first competition after the London Olympics, however. He competed in his weight category of 105+ kilos. In the end he got 424 kilos in total and lost 5 kilos to Ibragim Bersanov.
Currently he is preparing for the upcoming World Championship that will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan. That is why Ilyin will skip the Asian Games in Incheon. “I am preparing for the World Championship and I want Kazakhstanis to see my performance live. It will be much more interesting, and I promise to give an even greater vibe and more positive emotions that at the Khrapov tournament,” the sportsman said.
The 2014 World Weightlifting Championship will be taking place from November 4 to 16 in Almaty.
